Reviews of restaurants and guide to eating out in Rome, Italy.

Restaurants (as opposed to Trattorias)

In Italy, the term “ristoranti” (restaurants) is more specific than in English. The venue we often think about when we think of Italian restaurants, with laid back service, home-cooked food, and checkered tablecloths, is know in Italy as a trattoria.

Restaurants, on the other hand, are more organised and often have a wider menu. They’re usually (but not always) more formal than trattorias, and are a generally a little more expensive.
