Pizzeria Er Panonto
Er Panonto is a family friendly pizzeria, with plenty of outdoor space and a terrific antipasto buffet.
Situated a little outside the tourist zones in the area of Garbatella, just across the road from the Palladium theatre, Er Panonto is perfect for a pizza on a summer evening: the large courtyard is covered with vines, making it fresh and shaded (there’s also plenty of indoor seating in the winter months). This is where the locals bring their families, with children wandering freely among the tables and seats being moved to allow the passage of nonno to his table.
Also in the courtyard is the real speciality of this pizzeria: a huge and varied antipasto buffet. The selection of thirty or forty dishes includes vegetables, meats, cheeses, and fish, as well as a variety of fried, battered, and baked goodies. There are plenty of options for vegetarians here, and even the gluten-intolerant won’t have any regrets in skipping pizza for a second round at the buffet.
Prices seem to have raised slightly recently, but only from being bargains to being fair: if you venture out to this cornerstone of Garbatella dining, expect to pay no more than €15 a head for food, plus drinks.
