La Torricella
La Torricella is a great seafood restaurant in Testaccio, just one street away from the Lungotevere.
We’d been meaning to check out La Torricella, with its great reputation for seafood, for a while. When we needed to catch up with some friends last week, it seemed like the right time to go.
It’s a nice venue, worth the few minutes’ walk away from central Testaccio, and with plenty of tables outside—the combination of seafood, chilled white wine, and comfortable outdoor seating makes it a good summer option. We took the daily menu (is there another?), printed on a sheet of A4, and decided to share antipasto: the bruschette with beans and onions, pictured below, were delicious, and the fried moscardini (baby octopuses) were exceptional.
From there, Petu had the grigliata mista, and Rob had spaghetti with gamberi. Again, both were very good indeed. They also do pizza; it looked pretty good from a distance, but with the great seafood on offer, it didn’t even occur to any of us to try it. Desserts included a very good creme brulee and a home-made tiramisu.
There was a Roma match on, so we could keep track of the score from shouts from the open windows of apartments above the restaurant. Can’t remember who won the match, but the food at La Torricella was great. Dinner came to thirty euros a head.
