Ciuri Ciuri (a Monti)
Ciuri Ciuri is a Sicilian mini-chain in Rome that serves high end pastry, modica chocolate, and a few savoury dishes for a quick bite.
We normally stay away from chains, but Ciuri Ciuri is hard to resist. This Sicilian joint, a combination of pasticceria, tavola calda and gelateria, is creating little islands of Sicilian food here and there in the city.
Ciuri Ciuri first opened in Rome in 2007, with the stated goal of taking the best produce of Sicily and putting it into the hands of the best artisans, to create wonderful food that would introduce Romans to the Sicilian ways. Well, they succeeded! In the winter we love the layer cakes, with pistachio or frutti di bosco and chocolate—tasty and elegant, they make the perfect dessert to take to a dinner party. In the summer, Petulia cannot get enough of the watermelon granita, maybe taken with some chocolate or coffee granita.
All year round staples include cannoli—stuffed in front of you with fresh ricotta—and Modica chocolate: the incredibly tasty, granular chocolate typical of South East Sicily.
