Alle Carrette Pizzeria

Alle Carrette in Monti, once a great pizzeria, seems to have gone downhill in the last few years.

A few years ago, Alle Carrette—between Via Madonna dei Monti and Via Cavour, with an entrance on each street—was a great pizzeria. However, over the last few years, and with a rumoured change of ownership, the quality seems to have gone downhill.

On the last couple of visits, the pizzas have been smaller and less tasty, and the crisp Roman bases of old have given way to a slightly thicker, chewier dough.

Desserts on offer included a rather sad semifreddo covered with a fluorescent sauce that might have been squeezed out of a bottle.

Sadly, one of Rome’s old favourite pizzerias seems to have descended to the level of a tourist trap. Others disagree, however, so you may want to visit it yourself, and make up your own mind.
